Guess the brony community will always be split from here on out, huh? Judging from the poll I posted on here...
Anyway, I was planning to post this rant a week later, but I decided to post it now. No, no one provoked me into doing this, but I kind of began to feel it building up inside of me regardless and had to let it all out anyway. You know how it is. Some of this I might have already stated before, but there's no harm in repeating them again.
A reminder before I rant, btw: Ch.4 a.k.a. the Super Dash chapter is up on FiMiFiction.net.
[link]This is the only journal you'll be seeing on my page for a while, btw. Until E3 2013, maybe.

You know, it's kind of funny, really. It's been twice now that I've concepted something because it involves a number of things that I've grown to love throughout my time on the Net here, and that I thought I, well, would not run into any negative feedback at all. Well, talk about being proven wrong twice... especially if you publicly, consistently state that you want to see your concepts canonized by the content creators themselves. Only to end up with people criticizing you for it, directly or not.
Well, okay, maybe one of them seemed unlikely due to a number of reasons. One important reason being the language barrier... But when a content creator suddenly starts canonizing a bunch of stuff from its fans without the fans complaining about it, well, that is when its simply quite unfair.
At least, that's how it was last year before 2013 began. Now they're seemingly complaining about it, for reasons I don't seem to understand.
In mid-2011, when I began to notice that something began to spread rapidly throughout the Net akin to the ages old "All Your Base are Belong to Us" meme, I decided to then look into it, only to become a victim of that spread... A brony, in other words. One of the many fans of the surprisingly popular cartoon series, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Along with other reasons that made the show popular, one of the main hooks of the show for me was the speedy, flying, sometimes cocky blue pegasus, Rainbow Dash.
Since I happened to be a Sonic fan (and have been since the turn of the millennium, btw), I simply couldn't help but notice that Dash was basically Sonic as a pony. The blue coat, the grin she had sometimes, her need for speed and ability to break the sound barrier... She pretty much screamed Sonic, and it wasn't till long that I've found others who shared these sentiments with me, leading me to start the DA group that would eventually become DA's largest Sonic and MLP crossover group that I'm still the head of today.
However... just as it happened with Klonoa who I found bears similarities with Sonic as well (and have also been a fan of since 2001), as summer was approaching that year, I began to feel... an urge. A need, rather. The biggest reason why I was a fan of Sonic in the first place was because of something that he could do that had caught my attention the most... Yep. Super Sonic.
That, I felt, was the only difference sitting between Sonic and Dash. A Super form... and the more I thought about it, about how awesome Dash could really be if she had one, the more this inner need of mine grew... until finally, I gave in.
And so I concepted her. Using the same albino color scheme as with Super Klonoa (a color scheme that I feel is unique, rather than using the traditional gold color as Sonic) and turning her rainbow mane and tail into rising flames, along with other design tweaks, Super Rainbow Dash was thus born in a long series of requests and commissions that I did with the help of some people who liked her. And with each pic of her, she became more and more popular. Even those who weren't Sonic fans liked her, and this popularity of hers would eventually spike upward with the short animation by *
TehJadeh.
So with all of that, well... at first, at the beginning of it all, I thought it was unlikely for her to ever get into the show itself. It seemed like a near impossibility, but that all changed. Seeing Hasbro canonize a number of fan ideas into the show starting with season 2, from Derpy to alicorn Twilight, had then convinced me otherwise. That was one of the reasons why I had scrapped Super Dash's old Chaos Emerald characterization and recharacterized her so that she uses the Elements of Harmony instead, in the fic "Harmonic Spectrum." I thought maybe, if I tried hard enough and get the fic onto Equestria Daily, I could get her even more popular and get the showrunners to notice her...
Many people, on DA and on YouTube with the montage tributes there, wish to see her canonized, not just me... But as I alluded to in the beginning of this, not everyone agrees that she should be canonized. I was wrong to think that everyone did, as I saw via a curious Google search on her one day. And so this fact of life was reinforced on me. Something that I always say, yet sometimes neglect in the wake of popularity: Not everyone can be pleased.
So it brought my spirit down a bit when I saw that forum thread on why she should not be canonized. But, just as they're allowed to have opinions of their own (and they should be respected for them), I have the right to have rebuttals of my own as well. I have the right to disagree with them, as long as I don't go out of line.
Here's what they said in that thread and my responses to them:
Yes, that's a bad idea. That would be outright acceptance on Hasbro's part that they borrowed elements of her character from Sonic's. I'm sure they simply happen to be similar characters, but a Super Rainbow Dash would be like Hasbro publicly announcing "We didn't really invent all of Rainbow Dash ourselves!"...What? How in the world is this a bad thing, really? What's wrong with borrowing a concept from another franchise, in a world where, you know, everything borrows from everything that came before?
I think I get this person's mindset, btw, that MLP FiM is a completely original show that came up with everything on its own. Uh, hate to break it to you, but... it really isn't. It just as much borrows from everything that was before, and adding Super Dash wouldn't really hurt its originality when it isn't in the first place.
Besides, it's like saying Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising is "Konami publicly admitting that they didn't invent all of him by themselves" just because he gains a Hulk-like form with his nanomachines (son!). Or He-man-esque form. Whichever. It's very stupid to think like that, when in reality, nothing is original.
I mean, what would the point be? I mean, then there'd be two ponies that would be better than the rest of the Mane 6.I've discussed this with someone earlier. Let me quote myself:
The thing is, and I honestly kept noticing this as the three seasons ran their course, Twilight and Dash were already more powerful than the rest of the Mane Six. Even before she became an alicorn, Twilight's magic was already powerful to begin with as shown in the first Trixie episode. And Dash's physical abilities are already far beyond the rest of them as well, with the Rainboom, blowing up Applejack's farm with herself alone, etc.
The other four of them are pretty much are as normal as it can be. AJ's bucking hooves are tough, indeed, but that's about it for her. Rarity and Fluttershy really can't do anything spectacular, either. The only one who could possibly keep up with Twilight and Dash is, well, Pinkie Pie, with her nonsensical chaotic cartoonish abilities.
But yeah, in terms of abilities, even though they still make a great team, the Mane Six were never equal to each other. Not when you already have two walking powerhouses that could easily destroy the world if they went rogue. And well, I guess that's what people fail to realize.
Hm, I suppose that's why I didn't have a problem with Twilight becoming an alicorn, 'cause of her magical potential and, of course, being a leader at times. Honestly, you could really see it coming due to her Element being a crown and that you could tell she was destined to become one anyway with it. So honestly, I think she deserves it. What seems to be pissing people off, however, is that it happened way too early for them. I don't exactly see the problem with that, really. =/
If people are truly worried about this, about her being the only powerful one, then I think its fair enough that one of the Six recieve similar treatment as well. And it would obviously be Dash, with a Super form to keep Twilight in check, in case she goes rogue or something.
You know, even if Hasbro was to de-alicornize Twilight just to please the fans, there would still be her great magical affinity. Unless they're willing to take that away as well, people shouldn't expect the Mane Six to be equal in the end. 'Cause, again, they never really were in the first place anyway.
Heh, besides, didn't the six imply already that they didn't mind Dash being the solo heroine anyway, as long as she didn't brag about it? If they're okay with her saving the world by herself, then people shouldn't have a problem with it as well.Moving on:
i think its silly, plus its ripping off sonicEverything rips off one another, as I've said.
Besides, I don't get this, anyway. Super Dash is a different color anyway. She isn't gold, she's white. The only similarity between her and Sonic are the rising flames, which I could just as easily liken them to, say, the flaming Dreadsteed from World of Warcraft. See what I mean there?
Originality may not exist, but at least there's uniqueness. Simply put, have you ever seen rainbow fire before? No? Hm.
Not necessary. Rainbow Dash is already super. Making her more awesome than she already is is not only risky, but impossible. In some ways, she indeed is. But then, that's what I thought until Sonic transformed right in front of my eyes in Sonic Adventure 1.

It is neither risky, nor impossible. 'nuff said.
Dash would then get further biased hate that she doesn't need.As they say, haters gonna hate.

Seriously, let them be. There's always gonna be hate for everything, anyway, as I've realized.
Idk, that seems kinda silly to give any of the ponies superpowers of any kind. It's not any more silly than Dash nuking a barn with herself. Or any of the other extreme stuff she's done.
We already have a risk of Twilight Sparkle my second favorite pony becoming a Mary Sue...agh, no, not that dreaded term! IT BUUUUUUURNZ!! AAAAAAAGGGGGGH!!
Seriously, though, that term has so often been misused, misinterpreted, mistwisted (is that even a word?) so much that its not even funny.
Read this, and come back to me, okay?
Do yourself a favor and look up the real meaning of the term. Do not confuse it with the phrase, "I don't like this character," either.
Super forms are not perfect and never are. As the laws of fiction have consistently shown, there could always be a higher power that outclasses whatever transformation that a character is in. It doesn't always mean that you're invincible, and it definitely isn't something that will instantly fix a character's flaws in both personality and in the relationships around him/her. In fact, given the circumstance, it could make the character worse in one or both of those areas.
So please get it right and don't moronically, mercilessly post it on places like certain forums. Otherwise, you'll look like a fool. Thanks.Next.
It would sorta ruin the novelty of it being a fanmade ideaI dunno about you, but it wouldn't ruin it for me who's actively, actually trying to get her into canon. And as I've said, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who wants to see it as well. =/
even then, it would render the Elements of Harmony useless Not when she transforms through them or her Loyalty necklace. It's up to the writers, really.
it would also inevitably go into a downward spiral wherein the Mane 6 would keep getting "stronger and stronger" so the enemies have to keep becoming more ridiculous and over-the-top, AKA that's where Dragonball Z went wrong. You know, I could go in-depth on this, but I'm not going to 'cause it'd take some time, so I'm just going to say this. If it helps, then, to make me feel like I've actually achieved something for once, Super Dash only has to appear in ONE episode. Preferably a two-parter, really, for the epicness it'll bring. After that, the show can resume its normally scheduled slice-of-life episodes as usual. She doesn't have to appear again if the writers prefer. Well, uh, that is, if the new fans of her don't demand that she returns to kick some more ass... lol
Welp, looks like that's it.
You know, honestly, I found that forum thread to be unsurprising later on. Unsurprising, in that they were echoing the same stuff that the Klonoa fanbase were saying when I tried to discuss the idea of Super Klonoa with them. I guess, then, that some people in this world are just blind to the fact that "Nothing is original. Everything should be permitted" and the fact that everything is cliché no matter what.
Some guy on YouTube, btw, tried to convince me otherwise that there "are" a few original gems out there. Well, there may be, but there are simply too few of them and they're gradually decreasing as time goes on. As long as I keep hearing the same beats and melodies in music, seeing the same plot points and twists in stories, and the same design concepts over and over and over, no matter how unique they may be, I won't be convinced that there IS something original out there. And if there is, well, it's going to take a lot of it to convince me otherwise.
The only thing, the ONLY thing, that will stop me from trying to see this through, is if Hasbro either isn't legally allowed to do so or they fear that I could sue them for it (or they share the opinions of those who dislike her. I really doubt it, though). That's the reason why they don't take OC's, because their creators could easily sue them on the grounds that Hasbro didn't ask them for permission. Contrary to what some people may think, as her simple name even says, Super Rainbow Dash is still Rainbow Dash, a character that Hasbro actually owns, just in the common concept that is the super transformation and with the design of her that could just as easily be inspired by things other than Sonic. So therefore, I am in no legal position to sue them on those grounds.
As long as they keep canonizing stuff like alicorn Twilight and humanized ponies, as much as they make some of this fandom rage which I don't get, I will not give up. Simple as that.
